Using A Hidden 5th Wheel Hitch Versus Using A Regular One

A hidden 5th wheel hitch is the perfect accessory for any trailer. Many large vehicles such as semi-trailers and eighteen wheelers are equipped with these hitches and use them to pull trailers filled with heavy cargo.

Most of these vehicles have very powerful diesel-fueled engines and can drag cargo weighing up to a few tons. If these trucks tried to use regular hitches to pull their trailers, the hitches would snap off almost immediately. One of the few things that are strong enough to keep these vehicles attached to their trailers is a hidden 5th wheel hitch.

The majority of semi-trucks use these special hitches to attach their cargo. This is the only way that these truck drivers can transport heavy loads without worrying about the hitches attached to their trailers breaking. 5th wheel hitches are the only thing strong enough to pull heavy loads and can be used on a number of different commercial vehicles. These hitches aren’t attached to the rear bumper like most hitches are. Instead they’re attached to the bed of the truck or vehicle which gives them extra support. This helps the vehicles suspension so they can carry heavier loads. With these hitches, small trucks can pull massive trailers.

A 5th wheel hitch looks almost like a large horseshoe. It has long rails underneath it that attach to the trailer to provide extra support and stability. A large pin (commonly known as a king pin) is used to attach the hitch to the trailer. This king ping is designed to hold the trailers weight while pivoting at the same time. That way the vehicle can maneuver and turn without putting too much pressure on the hitch.

The hitch and the trailer’s flat plates are always in contact with each other and need to be regularly lubricated; otherwise the constant grinding can seriously damage the plates and cause them to break.

The price for a hidden 5th wheel hitch will vary depending on its size. Regular size hitches will usually cost close to $500. Trucks that need to carry heavy loads will need to be equipped with stronger more expensive hitches while smaller vehicles can be equipped with cheaper ones. Most of the more expensive hitches have a lot of qualities that cheaper hinges don’t such as a heavier cargo carrying capacity, better bearings, and sliding hitches. While these more complex hitches are quite expensive, they last much longer than their cheaper counterparts.
